Croatian weekend outing idea: Kamacnik

Croatia is really rich in places you could visit over the weekend, no matter if you are a tourist, a local or just passing by. In the end, it doesn’t even have to be a weekend at all. Maybe you just wish to take a quick trip somewhere far from urban areas and/or discover new places. The offer is infinitive and there are so many things you could see.

 

One such place is definitely Kamacnik Canyon, located in Vrbovsko, in the Gorski Kotar region. The hiking trail to the heart of Kamacnik Canyon starts at the train station in Vrbovsko and ends at the Kamacnik Spring. The trail is about 3 km long and it is accessible to everyone. It is especially good for kids.

To reach the spring it will take about 2 hours and in the time spent there, you will get to experience rich vegetation, see all kinds of animal species and pass over wooden bridges and all this at a height of 400 meters above sea level.In case you didn’t know, Kamacnik is also listed as one of the five largest springs in Croatia and is filled with flora and fauna. The recorded depth of the source is currently 118m.

Besides the walk through this educational-didactic path, the company responsible for taking care of the area also organizes all sorts of fun events in the middle of the canyon.

Before you head to Kamacnik you need to know that the ticket is 4 euros per person and it is open only from Wednesday to Sunday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Also, if you get tired on the way, and wish to take a break, at the mouth of the Kamacnik you can find a restaurant Kamacnik where you can try some local food and drinks as well.
