The Krčić Waterfall, also known as Topoljski buk and Veliki slap (Big Waterfall), descends precisely 22 meters before flowing into a cave, where the source of the Krka River begins. Despite the Krka River having three sources, the one beneath this waterfall is considered the primary source.

The river’s source is only visible in the summer months when the Krčić waterfall dries up.

In addition to exploring this easily accessible 30-meter-wide Krčić Waterfall via a delightful path across the bridge, the Krčić River, the driving force behind this magnificent cascade, features a breathtaking canyon spanning over 280 hectares.

Within this picturesque expanse, a 15-kilometer bike path provides a unique opportunity to appreciate the beauty concealed behind the falls. The trail allows visitors to immerse themselves in the region’s natural wealth, showcasing the diverse flora and fauna that contribute to the significance of this area, which has been protected since 1964.

What’s interesting about Krčić waterfall is its captivating legend. It is said that in the past, a fort stood on the hill to the left of the waterfall, serving to defend the bridge. According to it, it is foretold that the bridge will be rebuilt only when the Krčić never dries up again and when people cease their conflicts, fostering a time of lasting peace.

If you are planning to witness this magical waterfall at its best, we recommend visiting during autumn, winter, and early spring. In autumn, there is sufficient rainfall to enhance the water flow, while during winter and early spring, the power of the Krčić Waterfall is further intensified by the melting snow from Dinara.
