Koritnica valley and Fratarica stream are hidden beauties at the foot of Mangart
In the west of Slovenia, right next to the border with Italy and at the foot of the beautiful Mangart, lies the valley of the Koritnica river and the Fratarica stream, not far from Log pod Mangart in the Julian Alps. This incredible natural corner is considered one of the most beautiful in Slovenia, and it is often called the “valley of a hundred waterfalls“, thanks to its wealth of waterfalls.

Thanks to the Koritnica river, which rises from under this mighty mountain and passes through dramatic landscapes, this valley is enriched with wild nature and narrow canyons, making it an unmissable destination for lovers of nature and adrenaline activities. However, its tributary, the Fratarica stream, brings an even greater spectacle.

The slopes of Fratarica, create several exceptional waterfalls that are a real attraction. Among them, Veliki Drsnik stands out, a waterfall as high as 112 meters, which dominates the environment. The Parabola waterfall is known for its characteristic winding flow, while the Cathedral – Katedrala, with its imposing appearance, resembles an architectural masterpiece. Gorejc, although smaller, stands out for its beauty and silence, and all together make Fratarica one of the most special watercourses in Slovenia.

After Fratarica joins Koritnica, the river continues its journey through the Velika Korita Koritnica, also known as the Kluža Canyon, narrow and deep gorges that reach as much as 70 meters deep. This canyon takes your breath away with its dramatic beauty, and the very flow of the river through them creates spectacular natural scenes. In addition, the Koritnica river also passes by a historical landmarks – Kluže fortress and Fort Herrman, which once served as a strategic point for defense.
