Breathtaking! Driving through the beautiful Piva river canyon is worth every second!

A beautiful blue-green river passes through Montenegro. A river that flows through the canyon and creates a beautiful view, making driving through the region much more pleasant. Its name is the Piva River.

The Piva River mostly flows through Montenegro, as much as 35 kilometers, and the last 3 forms the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

One of the most significant features of the Piva River is the engineering miracle that altered its course—the Mratinje Dam, constructed in the 1970s. This monumental dam also gave rise to Piva Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in the region.

Despite reshaping the river’s natural flow, the creation of the lake added a new dimension to the landscape and fulfilled the energy needs for electricity production in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Yet, beyond its energy generation purpose, the Piva River is renowned for its pristine natural beauty. Its picturesque canyon is characterized by steep limestone cliffs and dense forests, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts.

What captivates visitors most is its emerald-green water and stunning vistas, drawing them into the tranquil embrace of its scenic wonders

No less, she won us over too. Driving through the canyon was one of the best experiences of the Adria Fun team on the way from Foča to Nikšić. The road through the canyon is filled with small tunnels made in the cliffs, and Piva surprises you anew at every exit.

The best thing of all is that there are enough stops along the road where you can park your car and enjoy the view. Believe us, every single one was ours just so we could witness that beauty for one more moment.
