Croatia is a country of wonderful natural beauty, and its national parks, waterfalls, rivers, and lakes leave you breathless. From majestic mountain peaks to the crystal clear shores of the Adriatic Sea, Croatia offers magical landscapes at every turn. One of these hidden gems is located in the heart of Dalmatia, on the Krka river — the waterfall and lake Brljan.
If you love nature, peace, and enchanting landscapes, this is a place you will want to visit.

The waterfall and lake Brljan (also known as Bjelobera or Ćorića lakes) are located within the Krka National Park, one of the eight national parks in Croatia, near Knin. This small town is already a great trip, especially for history and nature lovers.
Brljan is the second waterfall downstream of the Krka River, and you can reach it easily via the hiking trails that pass through this beautiful park.

The Brljan waterfall is not the most famous waterfall on the Krka River, but it is certainly one of the most charming. It is about 15.5 meters high and 400 meters wide, with an impressive flow that shows its real strength in spring when the river is full of water. Under the waterfall, there is also a lake, which is formed from its flow and offers a wonderful oasis of peace and quietness. This lake is not big, but its emerald glow and the surrounding landscape rich in greenery make it a place that looks almost unreal.
The size of the lake is 1300 meters in length, 400 meters in width, and reaches a depth of 12 meters.

One interesting thing about Brljan is that the Krka River in this part created a natural phenomenon known as travertine barriers. These barriers are created by the deposition of calcium carbonate from the water, and thanks to them, waterfalls and lakes on Krka get their unique appearance. Travertine barriers are constantly growing, shaping the river and its course in fascinating ways over the centuries, and today they reach as much as 300 meters in length and 180 meters in width.
There are also several archaeological sites nearby, such as Roman Road, the Roman military camp of Burnum, and the old Miljacka hydroelectric power plant, which shows how people have recognized the value of this area since ancient times.
You can experience the views from the photos from the Brljan viewpoint, which is located on the state road that leads from the town of Kistanje in the direction of Manojlovački falls towards Knin, and the exact location can be seen on the map below.

If you happen to be passing by, I definitely recommend that you stop and visit Brljan. Its quiet beauty and serene environment are perfect for relaxing away from the crowds, and the sight of crystal-clear water cascading down the rocks will leave you breathless. Bring your camera, comfortable shoes and get ready for moments you will remember.
