Budva: One minute from the sea

Every year it happens that the road takes me to Budva, to the Montenegrins, for whom the family has an important place in society and mentality. Family ties are often strong, and traditional values such as respect for elders and caring for loved ones are deeply rooted. Hospitality is an important part of their culture, and visitors often feel welcome in Montenegro.

Considering that this year I have been attracting rain, even last weekend I got wet feet in the middle of the old town of Budva.

The old town of Budva is a medieval fortress that is surrounded by walls and narrow stone streets. Within the walls there are numerous churches, museums, restaurants and shops. It is one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic and offers beautiful panoramic views of the city and the coast. This year, for the first time, my colleague, friend Ivana and I tasted a black pizza made of activated charcoal, real homemade, and of course, Nikšićo beer as well.

Budva is known for its beautiful beaches. The most popular beaches include Slovenska Beach, Mogren, Jaz, Bečići, and Kamenovo. They attract visitors with their crystal clear sea, fine sandy or pebbly shores, and various water activities. And you know what the greatest pleasure is? Good company and a cold cocktail.

Jokes aside, you can find a blabla car for 30 euros one way on the route Novi Sad – Budva, the prices of food and drinks are more or less the same as in Croatia, and like every tourist spot, they have a lure for every tourist: numerous souvenir shops. What was interesting on my way to Budva was the blabla car driver, he was a model who works for Armani and his friend/girlfriend who cycles in the mountains and is also a professional truck driver: what a queen!

I love getting to know the people I travel with, because then you can hear everything, from mom’s son who is buying an apartment, to those slightly different intellectuals, who think that studying the IT branch can also cure tonsillitis. Everything can be found there. Time just goes by faster for you. You don’t focus on the lenght of your journey, and you get the opportunity to get out the box. It is the same pleasure to travel in a Fiat Punto to Niš, or in an Audi to Pula.

There are also several museums that preserve the city’s cultural heritage: the Budva City Museum is located within the walls of the old city, and the museum’s exhibitions include archaeological finds, ethnographic objects and works of art. I would also like to mention the archaeological museum, which is focused on the archaeological heritage of the region, and the maritime museum, whose museum exhibition includes ship models, naval equipment, nautical charts and other artifacts related to maritime affairs.

I would go back to the rain a little more so that my kidney doesn’t warn me, and wear extra socks just in case: always and everywhere. The new brand Svemirka.rs has cool totes/bags, literally something that makes everyone’s life easier when traveling!

And after all, when traveling choose good company..
