Crikvenica Carnival! More than a mask, more than a made-up face

It’s that time of the year when we would like to turn into someone else! Therefore, the time has come for the madness that carnivals bring.

Crikvenica, which has a long carnival tradition, is among the first to start.

This year’s program begins on January 13 (today) with a traditional carnival party in Matkovići, where other carnival groups from the Crikvenica Riviera and its surroundings will be hosted in the afternoon. It will be another happy gathering with the sound of drums, accordions, music, and dance.

In the evening, the handover of the city keys to the hands of masqueraders is scheduled, followed by the raising of a masquerade flag that signifies that they are taking over power in Crikvenica.

A week later, on January 20, the Association for the Preservation of Folk Customs Duga hosts a carnival party in the afternoon.

The center of entertainment, on January 27 from 9 p.m., becomes a carnival tent on Trg Stjepan Radić in Crikvenica, with performances of the bands Grooversi and Fortunal.

The crowning glory of the “Maškara”, like every year, is the Children’s and Grand Parade, which will take place on Sunday, January 28.

After the parades, the party moves to a carnival tent followed by the performances of Koktelsi and Point.

On Saturday, February 3, at 4:00 p.m., darts fans will be in for a treat, because the masked darts tournament will be held in the tent, and the evening party will be spiced up by the always cheerful Jole and the band Trend.

In order for the youngest to enjoy the “Maškara” program additionally, a tea party, tombola, and entertainment were prepared for them and their companions on Sunday, February 4.

The last Saturday of carnival activities, February 10, brings a masquerade walk along Ljubavna cestica in the morning and socializing in Gornji Kraj in the afternoon.

On Ash Wednesday, it is customary to read the verdict to the culprit (Krnjo /Merik/Fašnik – straw man) for all the bad events of the past year, condemn him, and burn him, so on February 14 at 4 pm, don’t miss this interesting event!
