Lake Krupac or Nikšić Sea?

About 6 kilometers from the center of Nikšić, an artificial lake known as Lake Krupac and what locals call Nikšić Sea is located. Of course, when Adria’s fun team found itself near distance, we needed to check what was so special about it!

Right after we finished with that cold drink at Propaganda bar, all refreshed, we continued with the investigation of the area around the beautiful city of Nikšić. Someone in the team suggested to check out the Lake Krupac. I am not sure if was it the Lake Fest advertisement or some other source that turned up a light bulb, but by the time I got to think about it, we were already parking the car at the kid’s playground Topole.

Oh.. yes.. and we got to see these two lovely horses as well, which gave us a glance for an adorable picture that I am about to share with you. 🙂

After climbing a sweet number of stairs, a view of greenish crystal clear water surrounded by mountains appeared in front of us. Just look at this picture!

In case you didn’t know, Lake Krupac was built for the needs of the Perućica hydropower plant together with two other lakes Slano and Vrtac in 1950. However, today is known as a place where locals come to cool off in many different ways. Of course, we had to do the same, at least with a drink.

As we were approaching the end of the road, laughter, water splashes, and music were getting louder and louder. It must be very busy, we thought. And indeed it was.
The beach was filled with people, bars were serving round after round, and young men were playing football under the shade.

From what we heard, the area is known for its recreational purpose, and it was lovely to witness it as well. The beach, which can fit up to 10,000 people, is for sure the main one, but we shouldn’t disregard the walking/ running path around the lake, playgrounds for volleyball, basketball and water polo, scooter riding, boating, or kayaking, and even horse riding.

All this is incorporated within 5.7 km².

Now it’s time for us to rest and refresh with some local beer at the nearest bar before we head to our next destination. And to you, I would recommend heading to the lake to check this out yourself.

We were impressed! 🙂

Once I saw that there was a bigger world out there, so I made myself be a part of it.
