You must visit! Mostnica gorge is filled with beautiful hiking trails, pools and a waterfall
If you are looking for a quiet hiking adventure in the middle of forest paths, natural beauty, and mountain villages with the murmur of water, then the Mostnica Gorge will certainly be for you.
Only 5 minutes away from Stara Fužina and the enchanting Lake Bohinj, this gorge was created by the Alpine stream Mostnica, which passes through it for only 2 kilometers, while the total length of the stream is about 10 kilometers.
Mostnica passes through the picturesque Voja valley, surrounded by steep wooded slopes. It springs from and is fed by the waters of Uskovnica mountain in Pokljuka, and the mountains above Stara Fužina. It has three permanent tributaries: the Kropa, Suha, and Snedčica streams, with which it flows into the Ribnica stream in Stara Fužina, and then after a few kilometers it flows into the Sava Bohinjka in Ribčev Laz.
Just a few meters from the source, it is adorned by three beautiful waterfalls, the most famous of which is the Voja waterfall, also known as the Mostnica waterfall.
As you walk along the marked paths through the beautiful riverbed of Mostnica, you will come across many interesting things such as the Devil’s Bridge, also known as the Hudičev most, which hides an interesting folk tale, the Česenjski Bridge, the Beraški Bridge (Beggar’s bridge), various forms of erosion like a small elephant, diverse flora and fauna, and the Voje pastures.
You can choose a short path that takes you through the very part of the gorge all the way to the Koča na Vojah rest area, where you can taste a rich selection of delicious local food or enjoy refreshments, while the longer one takes you to the 21-meter-high Mostnica waterfall through pastures.
Of course, the best time to visit it is in the spring, when the snow from the surrounding mountains melts, and the magical Mostnica takes on its size, but it is no less special even in the winter months, it just requires greater caution.
As the Mostnica Gorge is located within the Triglav National Park, you will have to buy a ticket for this outing in nature. In the period from 15 April to 31 May and 1 October to 10 November, it is 3 euros for adults, 1.50 euros for children aged 7 to 14, and 2.50 euros for seniors over 65. + and students, while in the period from 1.6 to 30.9, it is 4 euros for adults and 2 euros for children from 7 to 14 years old, while the price for students and those over 65+ remains the same.
