One of Italy’s most special waterfalls! Varone takes all the visitors’ breath away!

Italy is a country full of natural wonders, and its waterfalls are no exception. From the high Marmore waterfall in Umbria, which boasts the title of one of the highest artificial waterfalls in the world, to the dramatic Serio waterfall in Lombardy, each has its own story and uniqueness. But Varone waterfall stands out among them. Located near Lake Garda, it offers visitors a unique experience – a position inside a natural cave.

The waterfall is located in Tenno, near the picturesque Riva del Garda , and is part of a park known for its botanical diversity and natural beauty. One of the biggest features of the Varone waterfall is that it is located inside a cave, which makes it special even in a country with so many natural attractions. The water tumbles through a canyon shaped over 20,000 years, creating a waterfall almost 100 meters high.

You can explore it in two parts – the lower cave, where the water roars deep below through a narrow passage, or the upper cave, which offers a spectacular view of the waterfall and its power. Moving through the caves allows you not only to see the waterfall up close.

The Varone waterfall was revealed to the general public in 1874 at a ceremonial opening attended by Prince Nikola I. Petrović Njegoš, quite by chance. This location soon became a favorite gathering place for aristocracy and artists, including literary greats such as Thomas Mann and Franz Kafka.

IT IS ESPECIALLY INTERESTING THAT ARCHITECT GIOVANNI MARONI, KNOWN FOR HIS COLLABORATION WITH ITALIAN WRITER GABRIELE D’ANNUNZIO, DESIGNED THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARK.

Today, the waterfall is part of a cave park that offers a unique experience of viewing its magical fall inside the rocks. In addition, it offers visitors an insight into the geological history of this area and the opportunity to enjoy a botanical garden with more than 150 different plant species. The park is enriched with picturesque bridges and paths ideal for exploring, while the picnic area allows you to relax in the middle of nature.

The Varone waterfall and park are open throughout the year, and visiting the cave is particularly interesting because of its unique ambiance. However, due to the high humidity and water droplets created by the force of the waterfall, it is recommended to bring waterproof clothing or a raincoat to make the experience as pleasant as possible. Tickets are affordable, with a starting price of 7 euros, while more affordable packages are available for families that allow for additional savings.

If you get the chance, definitely visit it!
