Rafting adventure on the river Tara
The longest mountain river in Montenegro – Tara (144 km), stretches between the mountains Durmitor and Sinjajevina and is part of the National Park Durmitor, which is characterized by incredible natural beauty – you will see for yourself during the drive to the rafting destination. Due to its natural value, the Tara river canyon is protected by UNESCO.
From where is rafting starting? Multi-day rafting, with breaks, begins under the famous bridge on the Đurđevića Tara (which is a unique attraction in itself and a must-stop when you visit the north of Montenegro).
Brštanovica is another starting point – if you want to experience the magnificent Tara river in one day! This part of the river is the most exciting because it offers you to enjoy the charms of river rapids, but also glades, old churches and monasteries, water mills, and much more. These trips are suitable for everyone, both beginners and experienced ones!

The rafting season lasts from April to October, and rafting is most exciting during the spring snowmelt period when the rapids are the wildest and fastest. If you are looking for real adrenaline, then plan rafting in April or May. The degree of difficulty of the rapids ranges from the third to the fifth and depends on the time of year and the water level. The tour can last for a couple of hours. It is also important to know that in summer the water temperature does not exceed 15 degrees.
For the rafting adventure, helmets and belts, as well as adequate suits, are mandatory, and it is organized by the National Park Durmitor and tourist agencies, which have everything necessary for a safe descent.
