Skiing in Slovenia: discover the best slopes and picturesque views

Some might think we are a little early with an article like this, but the truth is that every real skier plans much ahead. Besides choosing the best time to book your holiday in the mountains, you still have to choose the best ski centers to stay at.


Of course, at Adria Fun we advocate for choosing your next resort in the Adria region, so we decided to investigate what are the best ski areas in the area. In this article, it’s Slovenia‘s turn.



So here is our list of the top 5 ski centers in Slovenia.


Vogel – Bohinj

A ski resort in Vogel can be found very near Lake Bohinj, about a one-hour drive from Ljubljana. The area is known to be one of the most beautiful and popular ski resorts in the winter.  Ski slopes in Vogel are situated between the elevations of 569 and 1,800 m above sea level. Here you can find 22 km of slopes and 9 lifts for transportation. If you are a beginner, snow school and equipment rental are available.

Mariborsko Pohorje – Maribor

Mariborski Pohorje is the largest ski resort in Slovenia and a paradise for every skier and snowboarder. It is located just 6 kilometers away from Maribor and offers a wide range of activities. The resort has three sections: a lower  Snow Stadium, a middle Bolfenk, and an upper Areh, and offers 42 km of ski slopes, 27 km of cross-country skiing, and 10 km of night skiing. The longest run is 4km and it has 16 lifts for transportation.




The second largest of the ski resorts in Slovenia is Krvavec. It is located near the city of Kranj and is situated in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.  It has a total of 30 km of ski slopes and 13 lifts. Just like the rest of the resorts, it offers a variety of activities and tours and it has a ski school and rental of equipment.

Kanin – Sella Nevea

This joint resort of Slovenia and Italy is located in the very northwest of the country, just 1 km from the town of Bovac. The Kanin-Sella Nevea ski resort is the highest in all of Slovenia and is located at 2,293 meters above sea level. There are a total of 30 km of ski slopes and 10 lifts.



Stari Vrh

Just 35 minutes away from Ljubljana, a smaller but equally good ski resort Stari Vrh can be found. Situated at an elevation from 580m to 1217m above sea level is a perfect place for those who are just starting or coming with families. This resort has a wide range of activities for kids such as ski school, a conveyor belt, a snow park, night sledding, and a playground. There are 12 km of slopes and 4 lifts.



Besides the resorts we mentioned, Slovenia is also known for the Rogla, Kranjska Gora, Cerkno, Golte, Kope, Sorica Plateau, and Velika planina resorts.
