The Lastovo Archipelago hides 46 islands, islets, rocks and reefs worth your visit

Due to its mystical beauty, emphasized landscape value, dense forests, and fertile fields enriched with puddles, high coastal cliffs, terrestrial and underwater caves, and numerous rare marine and terrestrial species and habitats, the Lastovo Archipelago have been declared a Nature Park.

The Lastovo islands are located 14 kilometers to the south of the island of Korčula. It includes the southernmost inhabited Croatian island of Lastovo with its associated islands, the Lastovnjaci and Vrhovnjaci island groups, and the island of Sušac. In total, there are as many as 46 islands, islets, rocks, and reefs. 🙂

The uniqueness of the Lastovo Archipelago is also its rich cultural and historical heritage – numerous small stone churches, historic fumars (chimneys), and the traditional Lastovo Poklad (carnival). There are a total of five settlements on the island of Lastovo: Lastovo, Pasadur, Ubli, Skrivena luka, and Zaklopatica.

The town of Lastovo itself is located within the island, not on the sea. It has a long and interesting history, is an amphitheater in shape, and is surrounded by hills.

It is decorated with beautiful family houses from the 15th and 16th centuries the church of the Church of Saint Cosmas and Damian, the Duke’s Palace – Palac, castle, and numerous small churches.

One of the largest and most beautiful coves on the island is Skrivena luka. As its name suggests, it is hidden from view from the open sea, protecting sailors from strong winds and rough seas.

In the middle of the southern side of the island of Lastovo, at the sea entrance to the bay, there is Cape Struga, where a lighthouse of the same name was built in 1839. The lighthouse is located at an altitude of 90 meters, on the very edge of a steep cliff with an exceptional view of the open sea.

It’s not easy to get to Lastovo, but believe me, it’s worth every second you spend there. It is connected to Split by ferry and catamaran once a day.

Prepare for a five-hour ferry ride, with a stop in Vela Luka on Korčula, which it can be reached by catamaran in 3 hours.
