After almost 30 kilometers of its path, not far from the confluence with the Sava, through the center of the town of Kranj, Kokra created a 30-meter-deep and 1.5-kilometer-long canyon, the second-highest urban canyon in Europe. Its steep cliffs and the clear turquoise water of the Kokra River create a picturesque scene rarely seen in urban areas and an incredible contrast between urban life and untouched nature.

But apart from its visual beauty, this urban canyon also offers numerous activities for nature and sports lovers. While walking through the very center of old Kranj, from several sides you can go down to the very promenade along the river, which is a medicine for the soul. The easiest access is next to the Kokra River Bridge on Poštna Street, from which there is a wonderful view of a large part of the canyon, the Kamnik Alps and the Grintovec peak.

Right at the beginning of the bridge, you will notice the stairs that lead to the walkway and the wooden bridge that connects the two sides of the canyon. From there you can walk around for about an hour, enjoying the peace that this natural urban oasis provides.

As you pass through the canyon, you will notice lush vegetation, including willow, ash, poplar, maple, hornbeam, and wild cherry. As the canyon of the Kokra River is an excellent habitat for birds, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of chirping. It is no wonder that this place is one of the favorite locations for local residents.

The canyon is beautiful at any time of the year: in spring when the river swells, and everything turns green; in summer, when it creates shade and becomes a refuge from the heat; in autumn, when it is decorated with beautiful colors; and in winter, when it is completely silent, providing a peaceful atmosphere.
