The Vagan Cave was a shelter for shepherds for years, and today it is an interesting tourist attraction
The Vagan Cave (bos. Vaganska špilja) is located 920 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Vitorog, near the town of Vagan, about 20 kilometers from Šipovo.
For a long time, it served shepherds as a shelter from bad weather, but in recent years it has become a tourist attraction.

The cave was created by the action of abyssal waters and represents one of the most significant speleological objects in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The researchers determined that it is a fossil channel of a former underground stream through which water from the Kupresko field (Mrtvica) was drained towards the source of the Janj River.

For now, it is possible to visit about 125 meters of the length of the cave, out of a total of 420 meters explored.
The Vagan Cave consists of seven halls and canals, named after names from history and local tradition: Shepherd’s Hall, Lisičiji Canal, Simele Šolaja Gallery, Janjski Canal, Festive Hall, Hall of Giants, Ponorski Canal and Rada Marijanca Hall.
It is known for its wealth of stalactites and stalagmites and has been under protection since 1970. The central hall, 58 meters long, stands out especially for its wealth of cave decorations. The colors of these decorations range from white to red to gray and black.
The Vagan Cave is also home to several species of bats. The path in it is arranged and lit, so it is our warm recommendation that you visit it.
