Velipoja – four kilometers of clean sand

Albania has a 450-kilometer-long coastline that stretches over two seas! You can easily figure out where the Adriatic ends and the Ionian begins because the Adriatic can be recognized by long sandy beaches, while the Ionian is rockier, and the color of the sea is greenish blue.

The northernmost beach, the first one, right next to the estuary of the Bojana River, which separates Montenegro from Albania, is called Velipoja (Velipojë). It is four kilometers long and studded with hundreds of umbrellas and sunbeds. The sea is shallow and great for children or picnics. This area has about 250 sunny days a year, and in mid-May, sea temperatures usually rise above 20°C.

Velipoja is known for its variety of accommodations, from five-star hotels and resorts to less luxurious apartments, and there is an excellent selection of restaurants and beach bars in the town as well as on the beach itself. It is only 25 kilometers from Skadar Lake, so you can combine a trip to Skadar, which is the center of this region. After all, check the video!

The area is also great for birdwatching, and locals say it’s also great for hunting and fishing, which is a bit of a contradiction unless you’re birdwatching through a scope. In recent years, several projects have been launched to preserve the environment and encourage ecological tourism.

When I think about it, everything is in one place! The unspoiled landscape is adorned with a mixture of beautiful sea beaches, dense pine forests, river estuaries, and high mountains in the distance!
