What is the longest beach in Albania?

Good question, right? Although there is no correct official answer, the debate about which is the longest beach in Albania often appears in various articles and sources.

If you ask the search engines, each one gives a different answer. We even asked the same question to artificial intelligence, but unfortunately, we didn’t get a smarter answer. Therefore, we decided to tackle the measures.

According to unofficial sources, the longest beach in Albania is possibly Velipoja, with as much as 14 kilometers in length. It stretches from the mouth of the Buna River to the Adriatic Sea, almost to Shengjin. However, the map shows that the beach is interrupted by a canal leading to the Vilunit lagoon, reducing the continuity to about 6 kilometers.

The second part, that is, the remaining 7 kilometers of the beach, after the lagoon channel, would actually belong to Rana e Hedhun beach, an untouched and not-so-well-known gem to tourists that was created by the natural expulsion of a huge amount of sand from the sea and has its dunes.

Its part would be 11 kilometers in length. However, the county border between Shkodër and Lezha is also in that place, which leads to additional ambiguity and the question, why should the beach get a new name just because of that border?

On the other hand, we have Durres Beach, which stretches from the port of Durres to the village of Qerret and is almost 11 kilometers long. According to some sources, it is the longest because its continuity is not completely interrupted, although in one place, approximately halfway along the beach, the Durres River flows into the Adriatic Sea, but there is no disconnection from the mainland as in the case of Velipoja beach.

Durres Beach is also one of the most popular in the north, specifically in the Adriatic part of Albania.

Borsh Beach with its 7 kilometers and Shengjin Beach with its 6 kilometers were among the longest beaches. But they cannot be the longest, although some sources, especially those from search engines, as a direct agreement to our question today, recognize these two under the same category.
