Predjamski grad) stands out as a true architectural wonder. The history of Predjama Castle goes back more than 800 years. It was built in the Middle Ages as an impregnable fortress, and a labyrinth of secret corridors is hidden behind its walls. The most famous resident of the castle was the knight Erazmo Predjamski, who used these corridors to go on his raids. The castle was also owned by various noble families, including the Luegg family, also known as the Knights of Adelsberg.
Its location on the cliff provided natural protection from enemies, and its purpose changed over the centuries, at one time it was a residence, then a defensive fortress, but also a refuge for fugitives.

Today, the castle is known as the largest cave castle in the world, entered in the Guinness Book of Records. Its unique combination of natural elements and human construction ranks it among the ten most fascinating castles in the world. In addition, due to its romantic atmosphere, many choose it as a place for weddings.

The most famous resident of the castle was, of course, Erazmo Predjamski, a charismatic knight who lived in the 15th century. According to legend, Erazmo defied the Habsburg Monarchy and robbed the rich to help the poor, earning him the nickname “Slovenian Robin Hood“. When the emperor sent an army to capture him, Erazmo used secret passages inside the castle to supply himself with food and continue his campaigns. The siege lasted more than a year, but Erazmo eventually died due to betrayal – a servant discovered his location through a secret passage.
Predjama Castle has often been an inspiration for filmmakers, and it was also visited by the Discovery Channel crew in search of ghosts. Also, the author of “Game of Thrones”, George R.R. Martin, was fascinated by this castle.
