Why should Brindisi be your next destination in Italy? Here’s what to see!

On several occasions, through various discounts and available flights, we have mentioned Brindisi as a location worth visiting, but never in detail why. Now is the chance to tell you something about it.

This beautiful port city located on the south-eastern coast of Italy, in the region of Apulia, is one of those cities that boasts a rich history and cultural heritage and was an important point on the ancient Roman road Via Appia, which connected Rome to the south of Italy.

Today, Brindisi, although not a top location among visitors who flock to Italy for Rome, Milan, or Florence, still offers a perfect combination of historical sights, natural beauty, and an authentic Italian atmosphere worth a visit. Here are some reasons why…

ROMAN COLUMNS (COLONNE ROMANE)

The Roman columns symbolize Brindisi and mark the end of the historic Roman road Via Appia. Originally there were two columns, but today only one is preserved, while the other, albeit in parts, was transferred to the city of Lecce in 1657. From the observation point at the top of the stairs, there is a wonderful view of the port and the city.

FORT ALFONSINO

Castello Alfonsino is a spectacular fortress located on the island of Sant’Andrea in the very port of Brindisi. Built in the 15th century, the fortress served to defend the city against attacks from the sea. Today, visitors can explore this fascinating building and enjoy the panoramic view of the Adriatic Sea.

The Cathedral of Brindisi, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, was built in the 11th century but was rebuilt several times due to damage during earthquakes. Its interior exudes a mixture of styles, including Romanesque and Baroque architecture, which makes it a unique cultural monument.
