Worth knowing! Which traditional dishes of Montenegrin regions you must try?
Thanks to the geographical contrasts in Montenegro, you can certainly find a selection of dishes for everyone – both hedonists and vegans will be satisfied.
Nature has made an effort to give top-quality food, so it is worth tasting at least some of the specialties prepared according to ancient recipes. Today we will talk about continental ones!

Plums, quinces, and apples combined with wild carp, baked on onions… Can you imagine the taste of this dish, which is popularly called carp in a pan (mng. krap u tavu)?
Don’t miss the smoked dry carp in olive oil marinade, with chopped garlic, parsley, and fresh lemon juice.

Eel baked with rice or delicious Montenegrin trout are one of the favorite dishes of all lovers of freshwater fish!
And how about the indigenous small fish from Lake Skadar, which is a real delicacy when tasted after smoked? It’s a famous ukljeva (bleak)! It is served fresh or smoked, fried or boiled.

And what can we say about meat specialties dried on a mixture of mountain and sea air and smoked on beech wood? Like the famous Njeguš prosciutto, which is made from the highest quality pork leg.
Or košet – dried mutton leg, kastradina, or dried mutton. And there are lamb steaks cooked in milk or under honeycomb. This is a special treat.

And to end this story, who could resist Montenegrin cheese? Especially when you know that their recipe is a long-kept secret. You will be delighted with Pljeval cheese, Njeguš cheese, sheet cheese, prljo cheese, and skorup cheese.
