Dolenjska has a good reason for you to visit – Županova jama!

The most beautiful cave in Dolenjska, a major tourist attraction and a good reason for a trip, Županova jama, is located on the local road Grosuplje – Turjak, near the village of Cerovo.

The cave is only 700 meters away from another attraction, Tabor, a famous fortress and historic church. So now you already have two reasons for a trip, right? 🙂

In 1926, all rooms of the cave were discovered by the then-mayor of Šentjur, Josip Perme. Before that, the locals knew about only one hall of the cave, which served as an ice house. The cave is 330 meters long, and its greatest depth is 122 meters underground. A total of 478 steps and 600 meters of path lead to it.

The cave consists of six halls and contains all the typical karst underground elements such as sinkholes, tunnels, halls, stalactites of all kinds, scaly vessels, and, in winter, ice stalactites.

One interesting thing about this cave is that the picturesque scenery of the cave served as scenery in one of the movies about Winneto and in the well-known Kekec’s Tricks.
