The history of this place dates back to Illyrian times, and its name is believed to be connected to the Illyrian queen Teuta, who ruled the area in the 3rd century BC. During the Middle Ages, the fertile lands around Tivat were owned by the noble families of Kotor, who built summer residences and churches here, among which the Church of St. Anthony from 1373 stands out. However, the key moment in the development of Tivat occurred in 1889 when the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy built a naval arsenal, turning Tivat into an important military base that brought transformation, urbanization, and economic growth, laying the foundations for the future development of the city.

On the foundations of the former arsenal, the Porto Montenegro project began in 2006. This luxury marina and residential complex was created thanks to the vision of Canadian businessman Peter Munk and his partners. Today, Porto Montenegro is not only a marina with more than 450 berths for yachts, including those for the largest superyachts but also a real city within a city. The complex offers exclusive residences, luxury hotels, prestigious restaurants, and boutiques of world fashion brands.

In addition to accommodation and gastronomy, Porto Montenegro offers numerous facilities, such as a yacht club, sports fields, swimming pools, wellness centers, and a rich cultural and entertainment program throughout the year. Strolling along the waterfront, visitors can enjoy the luxurious view, go on boat trips, or have a coffee or a drink with beautiful sunsets. During our visit, we enjoyed a coffee overlooking the marina at the Forza Porto café, soaking up the atmosphere of sophisticated Mediterranean life.

For culture and history lovers, the Maritime Heritage Collection provides an insight into the rich maritime tradition of the region. Housed in a renovated building of a former Austro-Hungarian sawmill, the museum exhibits artifacts, ship models, and even a former Yugoslav submarine.

In addition to luxury and history, Tivat also offers natural beauty. Beaches such as 5C, Ponta, and Belane, which are located in the very center of the city, are ideal for relaxing and enjoying the sun and sea. And if you want to see more, then you can also head to the nearby Luštica peninsula, where a historical pearl is hidden.
