Weekend trip ideas! We are taking you through the Slapnica valley!

Weekends are designed either for relaxing or adventures, and if you are one of those who love hiking and spending time in nature, then make sure to read this article until the end. I am taking you on an adventure through Žumberak-Samoborsko Gorje and Slapnica Valley.

The trail we will be looking at is so far one of my favorites in Croatia, as the whole time you are walking, the sound of water is following you. From the left and then from the right, waterfall after waterfall, fresh air, and even fresher spring water.

Honestly speaking, I am a bigger fan of climbing through woods than hunting down on mountain peaks, so this trail was a peace of heaven for me and I hope it will be for you as well.

Driving from the Zagreb direction towards the Žumberak area lasted for about 30 minutes until we reached Medven Draga village about 6 km northeast of Krašić. Once you pass Slapnica quarry, you can drive for an additional kilometer or so and park your car there. Most of the people find a spot somewhere around the fishing lodge.

As there is a long trip to go, make sure you head there dressed properly. Although 99% of the trail is pretty simple, with almost no elevations and on gravel roads, if you wish to see the waterfalls, the path is tricker and slippery, so proper hiking shoes should be with you.

Throughout the whole trail, as I mentioned before, you will be completely mesmerized by the sound and flow of water. As the Adria Fun team chose to head there over the weekend, we passed by a slightly bigger crowd enjoying themselves by the banks, or walking, so expect that going to waterfalls will require some patience, as the paths aren’t as wide as you would hope so.

After only a few kilometers you will come across your first sign for Vranjak waterfall.

The path towards Vranjak waterfall is pretty clear but be careful as there are still some trees on the trail here and there. You will climb up for about 10 minutes, and at one point you might even need to go on all fours as the water is continuously washing up soil, and it’s vigorous. If you are carrying trekking poles with you, now would be the best time to use them.

Believe me when I tell you, the waterfall is worth the climb! Feels like you just found yourself in the middle of the jungle.

Once you finish with the first waterfall, you will head back to the main road and walk for another 3 kilometers until you reach Mato’s bridge ( Matin Most). From there you can continue further toward Dragan’s mill and village Čučići, or cross the bridge in order to enjoy the second waterfall of Slapnica Valley called Brisalo waterfall.

Now all you have to do is climb a little more and you are there.  I will again remind you to please be careful as the trail here is slippery as well.

Once you reach it, this will be your view + the view from up (it’s a drone view, please don’t attempt to climb it).

Now, from this point forward is on you. We made a decision to head back towards the car and head for long-awaited lunch. From the starting point to Brisalo waterfall and back, it took us around 4 hours with occasional breaks for photos and water. The total length of the trail is about 14 kilometers and in my belief, worth every step.

Once I saw that there was a bigger world out there, so I made myself be a part of it.
