Kaprije is an island you should visit

If you are looking for a hidden gem of the Adriatic, the islet of Kaprije is definitely a destination worth exploring. As I love islands, I did so a few years ago and collected beautiful memories there and stored them in my memory of places I want to visit again.

Kaprije is a small island with an area of 7.11 square kilometers, located about 15 km southwest of Šibenik. It is named after the Mediterranean caper plant, the buds of which serve as a spice. The only settlement on the island is also called Kaprije, and it is surrounded by hills, the highest of which is Velika glavica (129 m). There are no cars on the island, and it can only be reached by sea, i.e. by ferry or hydrofoil from Šibenik.

You cross the island in one day from one side to the other, so you don’t even need a car, and it was my first vacation without one and it was really great. So I had a lot of time to look around and notice details like this huge grasshopper and the dog with a special hole in the door so he could see who was passing by! 🙂

I also remember Kaprije for its excellent food, there are indeed several interesting restaurants with an offer that is loved by sailors and island guests, of which there are never too many. My wife and I ate excellent grilled octopus there in a homely atmosphere with a unique homemade rakia, and I also remember the black risotto and homemade squid in the restaurant at the end of the bay.

The apartment we stayed in was really something special, it was located in the first row to the sea, and from the terrace in the thick shade, we sipped cold wine and then jumped into the sea by the time you said biscuit.

Krešimir and Sanja really belong to the top 3 hosts in my life because of their efforts with their guests and their desire to be at your service. Not only did they get fish in Šibenik at my request, but they also grilled it on the grill for us and treated us to a salad so that we didn’t have to do anything ourselves. And for all that, I only paid the bill from the fish market.

And that’s not all, they also rented us a boat so that we could go swimming in the nearby bay on the island of Kakan without a special charge, and for the trip to the island of Žirje they gave us a car that was in the ferry port so that we could drive around the island. I will write about that in another post. A truly invaluable experience and to be commended.

I have at least a hundred more reasons that I could list as an invitation to experience the adventure called the island of Kaprije, but you have to try yourself.

I am sure that I will sail there again and that I will stay with Sanja and Krešimir again because I want to repeat that experience at least once more.
