Lake Javorica is an nature’s oasis located near Slatina

Did you know that just five kilometers southwest of Slatina, in the heart of Virovitica-Podravina County, lies an interesting oasis called Javorica? This artificial reservoir, in addition to being surrounded by gentle hills and beautiful nature that provides a peaceful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, is also near the Papuk Nature Park, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the rich ecosystem and natural beauty of this part of Croatia!

Javorica was created at the beginning of the 21st century by the construction of a dam on the watercourse of the same name. The primary purpose of this reservoir was to protect the city of Slatina from torrential floods coming from the slopes of Papuk, but over time the lake has become not only an important element of protection but also a favorite picnic spot for local residents and visitors.

The lake covers an area of ​​14.6 hectares, with an average depth of about 2.5 meters. Its length allows for numerous recreational activities, and the surrounding vegetation provides pleasant shade during hot summer days. Unfortunately, over the years the water has deposited sediment from the surrounding hills, which has reduced the capacity of the lake and raised the issue of its cleaning and maintenance.

Lake Javorica offers various opportunities for recreation and relaxation. The promenade that runs around the shore is ideal for leisurely walks, jogging, and cycling. Further improvement of the trails and the construction of a pedestrian-bicycle bridge are also planned, which would further connect different parts of this area.

But what is interesting is that, during the summer, Javorica becomes a center of social events. Particularly significant are the events as part of the Slatina Summer and the celebration of the Day of the City of Slatina, when the lake comes alive through various cultural and sports programs. Motorcycle enthusiasts enjoy motorcycle meetings here every year, which bring together bikers from all over Croatia and beyond. During the same, we visited the lake ourselves and were delighted with its atmosphere.

In addition to organized events, lake Javorica is a perfect place to relax in nature. The spacious green areas are ideal for a picnic with family and friends, and the sunset over the lake provides a unique sight that will captivate you. Here you can enjoy the peaceful observation of swans and other birds that inhabit the lake, accompanied by the calming and relaxing sounds of nature.
