The city of Slatina is celebrating the 727th anniversary of its first mention with a rich summer program

Slatina, located in the eastern part of Croatia in the Virovitica-Podravina County, is a city with a long and rich history. This area has been inhabited since ancient times, which is confirmed by the archaeological sites in the vicinity of Slatina, and the first known settlement of Marinianis from the time of the Romans.

It was mentioned for the first time in 1297 under the name Zalatnuk, in the Middle Ages it was an important episcopal marketplace with a church, and during the Ottoman rule, Slatina was also a fortified town. After liberation from Turkish rule, at the end of the 17th century and under the administration of the Pejačević and Schaumburg-Lippe noble families, the city developed industrially and economically.

Today, Slatina is the center of cultural heritage and tradition of this region, but also a city that this year celebrates the 727th anniversary of its first mention. Thus, the rich summer program called “Slatina’s Summer is additionally filled with a program celebrating that very anniversary. The celebration started on August 24th and lasts until September 15th, so you still have a chance to enjoy everything they have prepared.

To make things even better, as I also celebrated my birthday this weekend, I used this opportunity to head to this wonderful region myself.

From the very beginning of the anniversary celebration, various events were held in Slatina. Everything started with the tennis tournament, the 10th rolijada, and the Loud Fest, where the famous TBF performed.

In the following days, there were also the HVIDR Games on the premises of the former barracks and a summer camp in the business incubator.

However, this weekend was particularly interesting for all fans of motorbikes, rock, and tambourines.

In addition to the fact that the attractive program gathered people in the central city square and park, it also gathered motorcyclists from all over Croatia and neighboring countries precisely at Lake Javorica, which is located only 5 minutes outside the center itself.

That was my first stop right away. The noise of burning tires and revving engines is the obligatory folklore of such gatherings, admittedly a bit too loud for me.

With such “sounds”, adrenaline, motorcycle parades, and a few beers, I enjoyed the beautiful sunset over the lake together with about a thousand visitors.

There were also biker games, and a biker camp was made so that all those who came from afar could enjoy themselves in safety until the morning.

A cheerful team met me near the big tent and posed for all our dear readers! Thank you very much for that!

The celebration on the lake was accompanied by concerts by the bands Euphoria and Rockeri and the well-known Opća Opasnost!

While the smell of kebabs and gasoline spread from Javorica, the smell of langoustine, fritters, and burgers wafted from the very center of Slatina. The prices were affordable, and I was also surprised by the price of coffee at only one euro. Langoustine were three euros each, and kebabs were seven.

A concert performed by Slavonske Lole was about to start, so it was time to head to the very center, where a large number of people had gathered.

This otherwise quiet town thus became a place of entertainment within just a few hours, where finding parking was not easy. There, on the other hand, people sang and danced at the top of their lungs along and across, while tambourines and well-known hits blared from the loudspeakers from the big stage on Saint Joseph Square.

As far as I can see according to the program, it will be the same today because Neda Ukraden is also arriving.

In addition to that concert, in the following days, there will be an open championship in cooking čobanac and fish stew, various workshops for children such as making flower mandalas, exhibitions, comedy performances, and archery and wrestling tournaments.

Everything looks like I will have to come again, and I recommend that you join me in that as well!
