National park Lovcen: the greatest jewel of Montenegro
If you find yourself in Montenegro and you are on your way to Boka Kotor Bay or Cetinje, make sure you enter National Park Lovcen. You don’t even have to think about it twice, because if you don’t, you will be missing a lot.
Here is why…
Country name ORIGIN
Do you know why is Montenegro called Montenegro? Well, Montenegro is also locally known as Crna Gora which means “black mountain” and that mountain is Lovcen. The origin of the name of this country derives from the appearance of dense forests located on Mount Lovcen.

Nature, nature, and more nature
Driving on asphalted roads through the National Park Lovcen was one of the most joyful rides the Adria Fun team had on its visit. The air can’t be fresher and nature can’t be more breathtaking in the whole of Montenegro. The moment you climb up the first hill, you will know what we are talking about. Peaks from one side and valleys from the other.

The highest peaks hold treasures
When you enter National Park Lovcen you got 3 choices. Visit its highest peak Štirovnik which is located 1,749 meters above sea level, visit it’s second-highest peak Jezerski Vrh which is located at 1,657 meters above sea level, or visit them both. Why? Because they are both worth the time.
At Štirovnik you will have the best view of Boka Kotor Bay and get to see the antennas of the Radio-diffusion Center, and at Jezerski Vrh, of course, the one and only Njegos Mausoleum.

Choose your side and ride
No matter from which side you arrive to the close distance of the Lovcen, you can find your way in and up. The entrance to the park is possible from Boka Kotor Bay either with a car or with the newly opened Kotor-Lovcen cable car in just 11 minutes.
We wouldn’t recommend heading there with buses as you might get stuck in traffic for a while. The road from Boka Kotor is very narrow and often, due to the high volume of visits in summer, you will wait until someone finds a solution to either move cars or buses. Let us just say that the Adria Fun team was lucky that we went with a car and as we were heading down from Lovcen only two buses got stuck on our way, so the waiting period was about 1.5 hours.
The entrance we chose was the one from Cetinje and it was a blast. There was no traffic, we had the road almost whole for ourselves, and we experienced the park from front to back. Would definitely recommend you to do so as well.

HOTELS, cabin houses, restaurants, and the viewpointS
As you drive through the park, you will also come across some unexpected hotels, cabin houses, and some restaurants. If you wish to stay in the park premises for a day or so longer you can actually do so. We are sure that it would be a great experience. No traffic and hustle and bustle of the city, just you and nature.
In case you would love to see Boka Kotor Bay and you aren’t going to climb all the way to Štirovnik, then you must stop by the “Best view of Kotor” or Horizont Bar.
