We stopped by Maribor! Here is why you must visit it!
Combining the pleasant with the useful by staying a few days at the Pohorje Village Wellbeing Resort, I managed to stop by Maribor, which is about 25 kilometers from the resort, only an hour’s drive from the ski resort and beautiful nature, the Austrian border, but also other interesting locations throughout Slovenia.
I had the opportunity to travel to Maribor several times, and even this time I had the feeling that fun would be guaranteed!

It is a city that is rich in both cultural and historical heritage. It consists of the old town hall, the cathedral of St. Janez Krstnik, Maribor Castle, many museums and galleries, and of course one of the most prestigious universities in Slovenia and the region, which I particularly liked.
I like it at any time of the year and it is always full of tourists, whether they are foreign or domestic, skiers or mountaineers. And to be honest, the guys aren’t bad either.

What attracts me to Maribor is that it is known for its bridges, where I would single out the Drava Bridge, which was built in 1913. The city is also known for international festivals that take place along the banks of the Drava River, such as the Festival Lent and the Maribor Theatre Festival (Borštnikovo srečanje), one of the most important theater festivals in Slovenia.
Not far from the center, there is also an urban phenomenon, a green hill in the shape of a pyramid, which locals often use for walks and recreation. If you are a nature lover, then this is the right place to clear your sinuses.

Maribor is also known for its excellent gastronomy, so this time I decided to try lobster tail burgers at the Jack & Joe Steak and Burger restaurant. I was impressed by the variety of spices and interesting combinations of the burgers, as well as side dishes such as the sweet potato, which was perfectly prepared. As my friend Bojana would say: “I don’t know what it’s like in heaven, but after these burgers, I could swear that is it.”
In addition to the nice food, there is also a wonderful view of the river, so I would recommend everyone to visit this restaurant.
For those who prefer traditional food, there is also the famous Bosnian restaurant Baščaršija in the very center of the city.

Of course, I couldn’t resist alcohol either!
Even though I didn’t have the chance to experience the nightlife in Maribor, that didn’t stop me from enjoying cocktails and beer in broad daylight. Why not, right?

It is a city that is only two hours’ drive from Zagreb, which means that even the people of Zagreb have no excuse for missing such a weekend getaway. Maribor offers a variety of activities and attractions to explore, and overnight prices are affordable, starting from 50 euros for two people. So hurry up to Booking and let the fun begin!
And yes, as sugar for the end, if even after the whole text you are still in doubt, then you must know that their blueberry pie is top-notch!
Talk to you soon from somewhere else! 💚
