When the road takes you to Kranj, climb St. Jošt

When you’re in Slovenia, it seems to me that everywhere you look, you’ll see a great opportunity to go to the top of a hill with a wonderful view of the surroundings. It is the same for St. Jošt, only twenty minutes away by car from the center of KranjTriglav in the distance can be seen beautifully from it.

Although the majority of people come to St. Jošt on foot or by bicycle, we did it, due to lack of time, by car. The first thing you will come across at the top of the 847-meter-high hill is the church of St. Jošt. It was built in the Baroque style, has two towers, and was first mentioned around 1600, although it was certainly built earlier.

In addition to the wonderful view of the surroundings, on St. Jošt you will also find a famous mountain lodge built in 1950, where you can rest and, of course, eat something delicious. Although we visited this lodge on a weekday and during working hours, there were guests, but it was not crowded.

To begin with, we decided to taste the mushroom soup, which quickly arrived at our table. In addition to being extremely tasty and rich, it also surprised us with its abundance, so it might be enough for some people for lunch without ordering a main course.

However, we still ordered two main dishes. I opted for the classic, Dunajski zrezek (or Wiener Schnitzel), while our editor-in-chief Paula chose a mix of sweet cheese, walnut, chocolate, and blueberry Štruklji.

The dish was very tasty, the štrukli were excellent, and the steak is a classic anyway. We liked the friendliness of the service, and the speed of serving, as well as, the pleasant atmosphere. All of the above, as well as a 0.5-liter bottle of sparkling water, we paid 31.50 euros together, which is absolutely correct. It has our recommendation!
