However, the most famous owners of this fort were the Zrinski’s, a Croatian noble family that left an indelible mark on Croatian history.

The old town of Ozalj is witness to many important historical events. During the 16th and 17th centuries, it was the central place of the fight to defend Croatia from the Turkish invaders. Within its walls were kept the letters of the famous Petar Zrinski and Fran Krsta Frankopan, known as the “Zrin-Frankopan Conspiracy“, the purpose of which was the liberation of Croatia from Habsburg rule.
