The wonderful chapel, on a cliff above the sea, is home to an interesting legend!

Church of St. Nicholas on a steep cliff near Krimovica in Montenegro, is a unique and magical landmark that can only be reached by sea.

This small chapel, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, attracts attention with its incredible location and history.

According to legend, the church of St. Nicholas was erected by a Greek as a vow after he was saved from the weather on the surrounding cliffs.

 

SOME TRADITIONS SAY THAT THERE WAS ONCE A MILITARY GUARDHOUSE. ON AN OLD AUSTRIAN MILITARY MAP, THE PLACE IS MARKED AS “SCOGLIO NICOLO”.

The original little church got its bell around 1890, and the entire building, corroded by the ravages of time, collapsed after the 1979 earthquake.

The new church, weighing 14 tons, was built entirely on land and was brought from the land by a military ship and then placed on the cliff by crane in 2003.

The dimensions of the church are only 1.5 x 2.5 meters, and the height of the bell tower is 3.5 meters. All together enough for a maximum of five people.
