Only for cheese lovers! The traditional Cheese Festival in Kolan is being prepared!
If you are a fan of cheese and all its forms, then know that at the end of August on the island of Pag, this year’s edition of the event is being prepared, which celebrates one of the most famous and appreciated specialties of this region, the delicious Pag cheese!
Since ancient times, the well-known Pag cheese has been prepared on the island of Pag and the two islands of its archipelago, Maun and Skrda, which, in addition to hardworking hands, are formed by the influences of the dominant karst relief, aromatic and medicinal plants, and the sea, which give it a special taste, quality, and texture valued across the world!

In the cradle of its production, the municipality of Kolan, this world-famous delicacy has its event, namely the Cheese Festival, which will take place on August 30, and the whole week will be decorated with various accompanying events.
The Cheese Festival is a gastro event that celebrates the symbol of the island of Pag – cheese, which gathers the best cheese producers from the island and all its lovers. This year, as many as 40 producers will present their products through a diverse program suitable for all ages.

The Association of Pag Cheese Producers and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Kolan made an effort to prepare numerous educational workshops, such as the “Memorable Snacks” workshop under the expert guidance of Prof., MA, WSET educator Manuela Plohl in the Gligora cheese tasting room, where wines and cheeses will be paired.
A knitting and plaster-making workshop has been prepared, where island materials and motifs will be used, an artistic creative workshop for adults “Say cheese and paint” by a famous island painter, as well as a promotion of the book “The Cheesemaker’s Daughter” by the American writer Kristin Vuković.
To make things even better with the cheese tasting of numerous local cheese factories, the doors of which will be open to all visitors, exhibitors of other autochthonous products whose products go well with Pag cheese, such as olive oil, prosciutto, and honey, will be presented.

Of course, producers of souvenirs and jewelry made of wood and wool, who preserve these old crafts from oblivion, and well-known winemakers, both local and from other areas of Croatia, whose wines go perfectly with cheese, also come to the Kolan Cheese Festival. In addition to expert panels, a round table, and a special offer from the Ethnographic Collection, visitors can expect an excellent entertainment program, from folklore performances to a concert by the Dalmatino group.
It is a real opportunity for all visitors, local and foreign, to get acquainted with the rich gastronomic offer, cultural heritage, and tradition of the beautiful island of Pag on this very day and week.
