If the path takes you to Požega, then you must visit Zlatni Lug!
The scorching heat swept across Croatia this weekend, and after a very demanding week filled with long working hours, the Adria.fun team decided to treat themselves to a short getaway. The goal was simple: relax, cool off, and enjoy a reeeeally good meal! Since we allowed ourselves a bit of extra sleep, we didn’t begin our adventure until the afternoon, starting with lunch. On our way to Velika and Aquapark Shhhuma, we stopped in Požega, where we chose to have lunch at the Zlatni Lug Hotel Restaurant.
We were so impressed that we simply had to write about it. And no, this is not a sponsored article.

As soon as you arrive from the main road, you’ll spot the hotel, while on the right there is a parking area leading directly to the courtyard and the restaurant. Choosing this place was completely spontaneous, literally a last-minute decision, so we had no idea what to expect. That is exactly why our first impression surprised us so much.
Two waiters welcomed us at the entrance with broad smiles, and they even shook hands with Ahmed. From the very first moment, they created a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Once we picked a table with enough space for the youngest member’s stroller, they immediately brought us the menus and sparkling water.
To start, we ordered soups to refresh ourselves a little. We chose a mushroom soup and a beef soup. We were so hungry that we completely forgot to take photos of them, but trust us, that was only the warm-up for what was about to arrive.

The restaurant is decorated in a charming traditional Slavonian style, with historical details that give the interior a unique character. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the dining room is spacious. However, what surprised us the most wasn’t the dining area but the restrooms.
These are sincere compliments to the manager or whoever thought about these thoughtful details. Both the men’s and women’s restrooms are stocked with deodorant, hand cream, and sanitary products. The accessible restroom is exceptionally spacious and includes a baby-changing station. What impressed us the most was finding diapers in several sizes along with wet wipes, a thoughtful touch that is rarely seen and clearly shows how much attention has been given to guests’ needs.
The menu offers a wide variety of dishes. You’ll find everything from meat specialties and pasta to risottos and fish, so everyone can easily find something they enjoy.

We decided to order several different dishes so we could try as much as possible. First to arrive was the Orah platter for two. It included braised beef cheek in a rich sauce, a Slavonian black pig skewer, chicken fillet in sauce, potatoes, gnocchi, and freshly baked homemade flatbread that was so soft and delicious it disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived.
Alongside the platter, we ordered chicken fillet in a paprika and mustard sauce, a dish that immediately makes your mouth water the moment it reaches the table. There was also turkey steak in Gorgonzola sauce, whose aroma could be noticed long before it arrived, while the classic choice was a perfectly cooked beef steak served with baker’s potatoes.
We honestly had no complaints. The only small detail we noticed was that the gnocchi did not seem to be homemade. It’s a shame because that single detail would have elevated the entire meal even further. Still, it did nothing to diminish our overall impression, as everything else was beautifully prepared and perfectly balanced.

This time we skipped the wine and other alcoholic drinks because the temperatures were simply too high. Instead, we enjoyed soft drinks and coffee, and the prices were more than reasonable. A litre of sparkling water costs €4, soft drinks are €2.90, soups range from €3.50 to €4.50, salads from €3 to €4, while main courses start at around €12 for chicken dishes, around €14 for turkey, €29 for the beef steak, and €56 for the Orah platter for two.
In the end, the bill for six people came to €195.50, which we found to be perfectly justified considering the amount of food, the quality of the ingredients, and the level of service.
What also caught our attention, although unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to explore it because of the extreme heat, were the facilities surrounding the hotel and restaurant. There is a sports centre, a children’s playground, an off-road park, and a campsite. As far as we could tell, hotel guests also have access to a swimming pool. That alone gives us a good reason to come back, perhaps when the weather is a little more pleasant for exploring the entire complex.
All in all, this restaurant certainly deserves our recommendation.
