Goldenhorn: the most famous Slovenian myth
One of the most famous myths in Slovenia is definitely the one about the Goldenhorn (slov. Zlatorog), a majestic white chamois with golden horns.
According to the legend, Goldenhorn lives in the Triglav National Park. Legend has it that the lady fell in love with a hunter, however, due to lack of financial matters, her mother wanted her to marry someone richer who is going to provide her with a better life.

The brave hunter from Trenta Valley then embarked on a journey in order to capture a Goldenhorn and bring its gold horns as dowry. However, once they shot the beast and dragged it, the Goldenhorn ate the flowers which gave him beyond imaginary power that reflected on the hunter who then, by mistake, fell off the cliff. After that, Goldenhorn left the valley and set to never return.
Once the snow melted and the Soča river flow got stronger it brought the hunter’s body to the valley holding a rose.
Today, a sculpture of Goldenhorn stands by Lake Bohinj as a reminder of love and dedication.
