A must taste shark with truffles in Bonaca restaurant
Hvar is a very famous destination with a large selection of good restaurants, so choosing where to have lunch is easier said than done.
Walking along the promenade, I looked at each menu, usually displayed in front of each restaurant, to see what was on offer. Most of them are in English, and the animators are there too, to persuade you to spend a few euros with them and usually speak to you in English.

“Hello”, that’s how the young lady who was sitting, already at the end of Hvar’s waterfront, addressed me on a high chair behind the free-standing menu while I curiously looked at what was on offer. “Good day,” I replied in fluent Croatian, and she, not at all confused that we were locals, asked me, “Do you want something meaty or fish-based?” “Well… I’d like something fish-based”... I answered quickly.
“The specialty of the house is shark with truffles in a Parmesan basket,” she said in a flash, and I liked the suggestion at first, so by the time you said biscuit, I was already climbing to the first floor of the building with a wonderful open terrace overlooking the harbor of Hvar. Only then did I find out that I had entered the Bonaca restaurant.

My companion was not happy with the decision to choose my dish, so she preferred to go for the proven combination of grilled squid and prawn risotto, and I added some chard with potatoes to the shark with truffles in a parmesan basket. Here’s how it all looked.

The dish was delicious, and the very unusual combination of shark and truffle went perfectly with the Rhen Riesling with the appropriate name of Bonaca (cro. bonaca – complete calm state of the sea), and the hot homemade bread that completed the whole combination. The accompaniment praised the squid and risotto, and I also praised the service, which was fast and impeccable.

In the end, they didn’t charge us for two carob brandies and a side of chard that I specially ordered, and the whole thing was 105 euros, which I consider a fair price for the location, the three listed dishes, a bottle of wine and sparkling water, and the service. My warm recommendation for Bonaca!
