Aquariums in Croatia: Your guide through underwater beauty
If you or your kids love fishes and other water creatures and would love to experience the magic of the underwater world, then this is your guide to all the aquariums in Croatia.
There is a total of 10 of them, scattered around the coast, and are offering a variety of seawater and freshwater animals.
Let’s dive in!
1.Aquatika – Karlovac
Aquatika Aquarium in Karlovac is currently the only aquarium dedicated to freshwater species. It was created to present an overview of the flora and fauna of Croatia’s rivers and other ecosystems such as ponds and lakes. Besides the aquarium, they also have educational workshops, a playground, a souvenir shop, and a cafe.
The tickets for the aquarium for adults are 7.96 EUR, for children from 3-14 is 4.65 EUR, and for those from 14-18 is 5.31 EUR. However, they offer a range of other group and family tickets which you can check out and purchase here.

2.AQuarium Crikvenica (Acquario di Ciquenizza)
Aquarium Crikvenica is one of the oldest aquariums in Croatia that has 30 tanks that are spread over 200m2. The aquarium holds over 100 different Adriatic seawater species and about 30 tropical ones. It is open throughout the whole year except in February and has different working hours each month, so make sure you check out their website before making any plans. The tickets for adults are 8 euros, for children under 3 years old is free and for those from 3-18 is 5 euros. You can purchase your tickets at the counter.
3.AQuarium PULa
Aquarium Pula is the biggest seawater aquarium that was opened in 2000. and is located in the fortress of Verudela and the battery of San Giovanni. It holds over 211 species and around 60 loggerhead turtles. The tickets for adults are 20 euros, for children under 3 years old is free and for those from 3-6 is 12 euros and for those 7-18 is 16 euro. You can purchase your tickets at the counter or online.

4.AQuarium Poreč (Acquario di Parenzo)
Aquarium Poreč is home to freshwater, Adriatic, and tropical fish. In addition to the aquarium, they have a terrarium in which you can see reptiles from various parts of the world like crocodiles, snakes, iguanas, and chameleons. The working hours depend on the season of the year so make sure you check them out before you plan your visit. At the moment of writing this article, their website was not available, so we couldn’t check out the ticket prices.

6. Aquarium Terrarium Krk
Aquarium Terrarium Krk is the first island aquarium in Croatia and is inhabited by 70 species of Adriatic fish and other species. It also has the largest exhibition of shells and snails, together with a terrarium that has around 20 types of exotic animals. The tickets for adults are 7 euros, for children up to 5 is free and from 5-12 is 4 euros.

8. Adriatic aquarium Baška
Adriatic aquarium Baška is home to over 100 types of Adriatic species, 400 types of shells, and snails. It currently holds the largest collections of shells and snails in Croatia. The ticket price for adults is 6 euros, for children from 5 – 12 years old is 4 euros, and for younger than 5 is free. You can check out their working hours here.

9. Aquarium Terrarium Šibenik (Acquario e Terrario di Sebenico)
Aquarium Terrarium Šibenik is also a smaller aquarium located near the famous St. James Cathedral. It is home a lot of animals from the Adriatic Sea, from freshwaters of America, Asia, and Africa, and it also has a reptile terrarium with around 18 species. The entrance fee is 10 euros for adults, for children from 6-14 is 8 euros and for those younger than 6 is free.

10. Dubrovnik Aquarium
Dubrovnik Aquarium is part of the Institute for the Sea and the Coast and it has 31 aquarium pools that host a big number of Adriatic sea species. What is interesting about this aquarium is that animals always have clean and fresh seawater that constantly flows through the pools. The aquarium is only open from Tuesday until Sunday.
