Hiking trail along the Moslavačka gora – Crkveni Jarak

Hmm, it was spring. Will it rain or not? Is the forest flooded and full of mud? Probably! Shall we go or not? Ahh… why not. We questioned ourselves until Sunday morning whether we would go on an adventure through the forest after several days of constant boring spring showers.

We arrived at our destination after about 15 minutes of driving along country roads, which you can see on the map below. We started from Repušnica (a village in Sisak-Moslavina County) towards Mikleuška, by car, and our hiking “little adventure” started at the foot of the Crkveni jarak (Pedestrian trail – Crkveni jarak – Google maps). As funny as the “little adventure” sounds, it was quite an adventure.

Here’s what we had in plan. We headed towards Bela Crkva (eng. White Church), the viewpoint Vis (437 m above sea level – not an island on the Croatian coast) and Humka (488 m above sea level – the highest peak of Moslavačka gora). The entire trail (there and back) is about 11.30 km, and it took us about 3 hours to complete the full circuit. The path itself was not difficult, especially to Bela Crkva, and if our “folks” could cross it, so can you.

I also measured the trail through the Health application (GPS data measured on a sports wristwatch), so now you have a general overview of the track, and proof that we were really there.😋

Before you start, my sincere recommendation is to leave any negative emotions in the car and take nothing but positive ones with you.

When we got to the beginning of the trail (imagine that we are fully equipped with double layers of clothes, suitable hiking shoes, and more clothes on the side) we encountered a beautiful flat path (about 200 m) full of mud, after which one pair of trail shoes immediately completely disintegrated. Of course, that made us go back to the car and grab a spare pair of white tennis shoes (the brand didn’t pay for our lunch so we won’t even mention it, hee hee) that were saved for when we got back all muddy. Yes, it’s true, in the end, those same sneakers served us 100x better.

Now, when we solved the problem “numero uno”, we moved on to a trail that led along a beautiful stream and some waterfalls. Again, mind you, this was at a time when the rain had amped them up so nicely, and there was water EVERYWHERE! Now, in some places where the water crosses the path, there is a bridge, but in some, there is not, and if you are already planning on this path, then I recommend you to bring hiking poles or find some thicker wooden poles around you (but please you leave it in the forest after you’re done, you know… we have to protect mother nature).

Some of the transitions were easier, and some not so much… to make this little adventure even better, I slipped over a stone and dipped my feet into the water… you can only imagine how nicely my shoes were soaked. Luckily, from my own experience, I also have a great hack for you in case that happens to you!

TIP #1 – DO NOT FALL INTO WATER in the middle of the forest. I’m sure that the second pair of socks you brought were left in the car, and now you’re lucky because someone else brought theirs, but if you put them back on your wet shoes, you’ll have the same problem again.

TIP #2 – BRING DOG FACES BAGS WITH YOU (or any other small plastic bags), put them over new fresh DRY socks, and tuck the ends into the sock so they don’t slip. Although it will happen eventually, pray that your shoes are dry by then.

TIP #3 – DON’T GET WET ANYMORE because I’m pretty sure no one will have spare socks with them anymore.😂

After a short wonderful walk, we reached our first place to rest, a very nice bench with a table that came in handy, and it will also help you in case you want to take a break from this now (read BIG) adventure. There is also a beautiful bridge that you have to cross, so take a moment and enjoy the luxury of the wonders of Mother Nature and the sound of the water of the wonderful waterfall.

After we had a good rest, drank some water and some rakija, we moved on. When we crossed the bridge and went up the stairs, after that there was a slightly longer, mostly flat path along the stream. Don’t worry, there is no confusion, the road leads you to the Bela crkva almost all the time.

If you’re going to Humka with this trail, and you didn’t plan to go towards the Bela crkva as we did, you can always skip this part and follow the sign for Vis, but if you still decide (the path will lead you towards Vis again) just follow the sign for the Samostan Blažene Marije Snježne (eng. Monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Snow). I believe that it could be a bit confusing, so that’s why I mention all these names for the church because there are a few of them.

The whole way we were accompanied by wonderful nature, clean air, the murmur of water, and the singing of birds. This was great for me, and it was just the right escape from work and the hustle and bustle of the city. But as the trail was coming to an end, and I was looking forward to the rest, a white structure peeked out from the left side through the branches. If you see that, know that you have found the Bela crkva.

It’s sightseeing time for us, and a short break from reading for you. Soon I will bring you the continuation of this story… and until then, I am sending you kisses.
