Kokomani Winery: wine and food with best view
About a month ago we talked about Albanian wine and famous wineries. To make sure that we suggested the right thing, on our trip through Albania we stopped by the Kokomani Winery, known for being home to the indigenous Shesh grape, one of the best in Albania.
Once we arrived at Kokomani Winery, we noticed large groups of people just leaving, thinking will there be space for us to sit down? While waiting for our table to be ready, the waiter told us that soon they expect another large group as well. Hmm.. that sounds great… must be that the wine and food are that good.
As we were taking pictures and trying to check on the wine which will be served to us, we found out that the restaurant already has a prepared menu and the wine tasting as a package deal. It cost 20 euros per person and you get to taste 4 types of wines.
Here is what we thought of them after trying it out:
- Shesh i Bardhe, was tasty, filled with fruit aromas of apple, pear, peach, and lemon. It is not as heavy, drier but higher in acidity. The color is more gold with greenish shades.
- Shesh i Zi, red wine with aromas of plum, blackberry, cherry, and strawberry. It is not heavy either but higher in tannin which makes it more bitter. The color is pale purple and is more dry than sweet.
- Shen Mhill, is also a red wine, coupage of petit, merlot, and cabernet. It is a heavier wine and has an intense aroma from Merlot.
- Vere e embel, is a red wine of sweet aroma, perfect after a meal and with a dessert.
The price of wine, for its quality, is fair. A bottle of Shesh i Bardhe can be bought for 8 euros ( 800 All), Shesh i Zi, Shen Mhill, and Vere e embel go for 12 euros (1200 All).
As for the food, we can only say the best. I mean just look at the colors. It tastes as good as it looks. Interestingly, a combination of salty and sweet isn’t as bad as it might sound. We were pretty surprised to try on meatballs covered in rose jam too, but it was delicious. They served us spinach and potato pie, fresh salad, 3 types of sauces, sausages, meatballs, cheeses and 3 types of jams. The jams are homemade, made out of rose, fig, and orange, and are being sold at the winery as well. They cost 6 euros (600 All) per jar.
Overall the experience was pretty amazing and something we will surely go for again. If you wish to taste some of the best Albanian wines, Kokomani Winery is a perfect place for this. It is Adria Fun approved! 🙂
