In southeastern Albania, surrounded by mountains and situated at around 850 meters above sea level, lies Korçë, one of the country’s most distinctive cities. Even the first arrival in the city reveals its unique character. Wide avenues, old houses influenced by French and Ottoman architecture, and lively squares create the impression of a place that has long been an important cultural center of the region. Korçë is often called the city of serenades, music, and art, and this atmosphere leaves a lasting impression on visitors.

One of the most famous places in the city is the Old Bazaar. Restored stone passageways, traditional shops, restaurants, and cafés create an atmosphere that blends the past with modern life. Among the most important landmarks in Korçë is the Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. This monumental building dominates the city with its impressive domes and magnificent interior. The combination of Byzantine details and modern restoration makes it one of the most beautiful Orthodox churches in Albania. Inside, rich mosaics, icons, and elaborately painted walls testify to the importance of the Orthodox tradition in this part of the country.

Korçë is also known as one of Albania’s most important educational and cultural centers. It was here that the first Albanian language school was opened in the late 19th century, and today the building houses the Education Museum. Korçë is also known for its vibrant social life. Throughout the year, the city hosts numerous festivals, concerts, and cultural events. Summer festivals bring music and art to the city squares, while in winter, Korçë becomes one of the coziest places to enjoy a snowy atmosphere and traditional cuisine.

Traditional Albanian dishes hold a special place in the local gastronomy, along with the famous Korçë beer that has been produced since 1928. Restaurants and small taverns offer a mix of Balkan flavors, homemade recipes, and the hospitality for which this region is well known.
