Kruja Bazaar: one of oldest Albanian markets
Around 33km away from the capital city of Albania, Tirana, a city of Kruja, can be found. The city is known to be the birthplace of Albanian national hero, Skanderbeg (Gjergj Kastrioti), who led a rebellion against the Ottoman Empire but we will discuss this as well in another article.
Kruja Bazaar, also known as Kruja Market, is a popular and historic marketplace that dates back over 400 years and is a starting point for free trade. Kruja Bazaar is situated under Kruja Castle and there you can find a wide range of traditional Albanian products, souvenirs, handicrafts, and clothing.
You can also find all kinds of traditional instruments and food products such as homemade jams, olive oil, and homemade rakia. It is a perfect place for tourists to experience the vibrance of such markets and buy original products.
Adria Team couldn’t say no to shopping either, so we got some baskets and sweets trays handmade out of olive trees and some original cotton handmade carpets. The baskets and trays cost about 15 euro each, and the big carpet was 30 euros. Prices also depend on the shop you enter and your negotiation techniques, so better proper yourself for some bargaining.
Visiting Kruja Bazaar also provides an opportunity to explore the Kruja Castle, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the city.
