These are the cafes and restaurants that you must visit in Novi Sad and its surroundings

Novi Sad has been declared the European Capital of Culture for 2022. This title allows the city to stand out as a cultural center with a rich history and diverse art scene. In addition to being the city of culture, Novi Sad has been holding the title of the city of youth since 2019.

What you have surely heard about Novi Sad is the Petrovaradin fortress, an imposing fortress that is one of the most striking symbols of the city. It is also known for its spectacular EXIT festival, which is held at the fortress every year. I must not forget the Serbian National Theatre, one of the oldest professional theaters in Serbia, founded way back in 1861.

Although Fruška gora, as a mountain range, is located near Novi Sad and is known for its natural beauty, monasteries, and opportunities for recreation and hiking, I would also like to point out the part of the city called Liman and Strand – as one of the more popular city districts known for to its promenade along the Danube, parks, and sports facilities. There is also a creative district in Liman where they are located OPENS, French Institute, Office for Cooperation with Civil Society of the City of Novi Sad, Liman Cultural Center, SKCNS Fabrika, and other creatives.

These are just some of the many interesting things that make Novi Sad a special and attractive city for visitors. And now let’s get back to the main thing!

If your journey takes you to the plains and Vojvodina this year, these are the cafes and restaurants you must visit in Novi Sad and the surrounding area!

IZLET

The café is located in the very center, more precisely in Danube Park. It is specific because it offers excellent coffee and fine croissants, but also a picnic area, where you can let your pet out, read books, or enjoy playing in the grass with the children. Also, they have top baristas and services.

PASCAL

If you ask me, this is the coolest place in the city, with fantastic food, and location, but also an atmosphere that exudes relaxation, or what evil tongues would call “hipster”. It is located on Radnička Street, and it is highly recommended for the pulled pork sandwich, as well as the oatmeal, which is a great choice for a (hungover) breakfast.

DISCONT BAR

If you want good music, and at the same time enjoy it by the river, then Discont bar is the ideal place for you. Famous DJs, playful dancers, and various cocktails await you. It is located on Ribarski otok, and you can reach it by taxi/car or on foot.

If you are a fan of bars in the strict center of the city, then your choice should definitely be Puberaj.

LAZIN SALAŠ

Now, if you are a big gourmand, but also a fan of tambourines, Lazin salaš is a place where you will feel at home. With checkered tablecloths, traditional home cooking in an ethnic setting, and glasses of good wine at a real Vojvodina farm – entertainment is guaranteed.

VIKEND KRČEDIN

Located half an hour from Novi Sad, they offer breakfast, healthy homemade juices, as well as a wide selection of coffee. It is a good place for a weekend escape, but also a place where you will feel the true kindness of the host.

Nearby is the Stojšić salaš, where you can linger for lunch and enjoy nature with domestic animals.

FREESHKA

A favorite place for coffee, but also ground coffee, which every house must have, they offer weak and strong, as well as aromatic coffee. If you want to take a non “traditional souvenir” from Novi Sad, I highly recommend their products.

I must not forget the Russian cafe Filipenko, Zenit books, Hamman atrium with the cutest cafe on the roof of the building, but also Petrus, Nasuvo i friško, Brauhaus, Bulevar books,  as well as the Frida cafe. Uh, I could go on and on until tomorrow.

No matter how long you stay in Novi Sad, there are too few days and too many things to do – don’t ask how I know! Book accommodation & enjoy!
