The history of the city takes us to the year 973, when the German emperor Otto II. donated this area to Bishop Abraham of Freising. Over the centuries, the city developed under his administration, which left a deep mark on its development and architecture. Despite the devastating earthquake in 1511, Škofja Loka was rebuilt and has preserved its medieval appearance to this day. After that, the city developed as an important trade center in the region, and today it is a real small open-air museum.
