Pliva Waterfall, situated on the Pliva River, about 4 kilometers west of the town of Jajce, is one of the most beautiful natural gems in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jajce itself is about 70 kilometers away from Banja Luka and about 160 kilometers from Sarajevo and Mostar.

Pliva Waterfall is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region and is known for its breathtaking beauty and serene surroundings. It is believed that it is about 50.000 years old.

The Pliva waterfall is formed by the river plunging over a natural tufa barrier, creating a picturesque cascade that drops about 22 meters from Pliva Lakes that eventually joins the Vrbas River downstream.

The entire area around Pliva Waterfall is rich in dense forests, hills, and diverse flora and fauna. The surrounding landscape is ideal for hiking, picnicking, exploring nature, and relaxing.

The Legend of the PLIVA Waterfall Bride

Pliva Waterfall, in addition to its inherent beauty and charm, is steeped in a poignant legend recounting the tale of a beautiful bride who leaped from the cliff into the Pliva River. According to the lore, this young bride, faced with the prospect of an undesired marriage, made the heart-wrenching choice to take her own life.

Legend has it that the very moment she touched the water, a powerful transformation occurred. The bride became a majestic waterfall, eternally frozen in the graceful pose of her leap. Today, Pliva Waterfall stands not only as a natural wonder but also as a symbol of the enduring love and loyalty of the bride, immortalized in the cascading waters.

Pliva Waterfall is easily accessible. There are designated viewing platforms for visitors and you can also walk along the pathways. According to the latest sources available, the viewing of the Pliva lakes is free but for the waterfall, you need to buy a ticket which is in season in 8KM or 4 € and off-season is 4KM or 2 €.

Besides the site viewing, as it is a popular tourist destination, you get to enjoy a variety of other offerings. There are cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, and accommodations, which you might find convenient if you wish to spend a day or more in the area. Jajce Municipality has a lot of other things to offer.
