Tavern with traditional Albanian food
When visiting the old town of Kruja, I wanted to try food in a traditional Albanian tavern, so the choice fell on Bar Restaurant Eli, located 100 meters from the Skanderbeg Museum and the old bazaar.
It is a typical tavern on the first floor of an old building with a beautiful view of the street where tourists and local people pass. It is located right next to the road, so you cannot bypass it. At the entrance, I was greeted by a sign that said they offer traditional Albanian cuisine. That’s exactly what I’m looking for!
The waiter was nice and agile, so he quickly persuaded me to try their traditionally prepared chicken with potatoes under the bell, and part of the team also ordered a Greek salad, which is not really traditional Albanian food… heh, heh 🙂
With the delicious chicken with tried proper domestic white wine served in a clay jug, and before the meal with homemade rakia. The custom in Albania is to drink warm rakia, which did not really excite me because I am used to something different.
And for the end, let’s talk about prices. The bill for food and drinks for three people was 46 euros, which is a bit more expensive than in other cities, but Kruja is still a favorite tourist destination. Traditional chicken for two people was the most expensive and amounted to 25 euros. Coffee is usually the cheapest and costs only one euro.
