The Mogren fortress bears witness to the turbulent history of Budva!

Above the beautiful Mogren beach, on the western edge of the Old Town of Budva, is the Mogren fortress, a fascinating military fortification from the 19th century.

Built-in 1860 during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy under the name Fort Jaz, the fortress served as a key point for monitoring the Bay of Budva and the approaches from the sea and the land.

During its history, the Mogren fortress had a significant military role. During the Second World War, it was used as a warehouse for ammunition and weapons. Unfortunately, in 1979, a strong earthquake caused serious damage to the fortress, leaving it in ruins. Today, somewhat overgrown with vegetation, the fortress stands as a silent witness to the turbulent past.

Despite its current state, Mogren Fortress still attracts many tourists. Visitors are enchanted by the beautiful views of Budva, the beaches, the island of St. Nicholas, and the endless blue of the Adriatic Sea. The fortress provides a unique opportunity to explore history and enjoy natural beauty.

There are plans for the restoration and valorization of the Mogren fortress. The local community and authorities recognize the potential of this historic site for cultural and tourist activities.

The renovation of the fortress could bring new life to this part of Budva, creating space for cultural manifestations, exhibitions, and other events.
