It was the first attraction of this canyon known only to the local population before the canyon itself was explored. It is located at the very end of the 1.6-kilometer-long Vintgar Canyon.
The Radovna River, which runs through the entire valley and canyon, has created numerous erosive features, including this particular waterfall.

It is believed that it was discovered sometime at the end of the 19th century. In 1878, the local population built a wooden bridge on it to make it easier to access the forest from the other side, and so that anyone could enjoy its beauty.
The Šum waterfall is exceptionally unique because it falls steeply from a height of 13 meters and collapses into a deep pool that has only deepened over the years.
It got its name from the murmur that can be heard from afar, and it is said that its noise is the most beautiful in the spring, when the Radovna River swells. Of course, it is no less special during the rest of the year, and in winter it can freeze, so its ice needles create a real idyll.
In addition to being the real pearl of the canyon, the Šum waterfall is also one of the three river waterfalls, and also the highest river waterfall in Slovenia.

If you want to start your exploration in the Vintgar canyon from the other side, the one from the village of Blejska Dubrava, know that this magical waterfall will meet you right at the entrance.
If the waterfall is the last stop of your trip, then there will also be a hut where you can treat yourself to ice cream or a refreshing drink before heading to your car, and of course, enjoy the Šum waterfall forest.
