Tunnel Grič will become the center of wine, food, and good entertainment for three days, ZAGREB UNDERGROUND is coming!
In April, Zagreb will become the first city in Croatia to host the Zagreb Underground Wine & Walk festival, in a tunnel built during World War II 79 years ago.
It is about the 350-meter-long Tunnel Grič, which was opened to the public in 2016, and which hosts occasional events such as the Polar Dream during Advent. However, this kind of gastro-enological event, with wine tastings and delicacies from the best Croatian producers, has never been held there.
The founder of Zagreb Underground is the young entrepreneur Paula Kovačić, who, traveling and working around the world, saw similar experiences, so at the persuasion of her family, she decided to return to Croatia and start her own business. “Everywhere is beautiful, but home is the most beautiful, so I returned because I see my future here. I love traveling, being creative, and dreaming, so I first started the portal Adria.fun, and then, as an extension, the idea of my original brand of thematic festivals, which I called Underground Adria, arose. As part of that, I am also organizing my debut in the tunnel Grič”… excitedly and sincerely says the lovely Paula, showing us photos from a similar event held for 15 years in nearby Kranj, Slovenia.
The first Zagreb Underground is dedicated to Croatian wine regions, and tunnel Grič will be decorated visually and with lighting, and through it visitors will move exclusively in one direction from Mesnička to Radićeva Street.
“You are all invited! We have already confirmed the arrival of the best winemakers from Slavonia, Bregovita Croatia, Istria and Primorje, and Dalmatia and Herzegovina, and there are only a few stands left, so I invite all those interested to contact us while there are still places,” says Paula with a smile on her face as she emphasizes that Zagreb Underground will take place from Friday, April 12 to Sunday, April 14, from 3 to 10 p.m.
Interestingly, the tunnel Grič will only be entered with purchased tickets at the exact time to avoid crowds. “Yes, it is a novelty that will ensure a pleasant atmosphere for everyone. Starting today, tickets will be sold online through the Eventim system and at their points of sale, and in limited quantities, because we want everyone to have full comfort while having a relaxed time passing by the stands where they can offer and taste more than 200 Croatian wines and delicious gastronomic delicacies. of Croatian OPGs,” says Paula.
There will also be other accompanying events, such as an exhibition of future winemaking as seen by artificial intelligence, a fun selfie corner, prize games, and some surprises… and on the central square of the largest wine cellar in Croatia in the tunnel Grič and a stage where musicians and entertainers will perform.
In addition to wine tastings and delicacies and a portion of entertainment, the ticket price includes an original Zagreb Underground wine glass, and part of the revenue from the tickets will be allocated for humanitarian purposes. “Thus, everyone will have a nice memory of this first underground gastro-enological festival, which I hope will become traditional, not only in Zagreb but also in some other cities in Croatia,” the newly minted entrepreneur concluded.
