Where to go sledding in Croatia? These are the best weekend day trips!
Snow has been falling heavily across Croatia in recent days, and it would be a shame to watch it only through the window. If you are not into skiing but still want to get outside, sledding and snow are more than enough reasons for a weekend trip. You don’t need a lift ticket, special equipment, or to plan a month. All you need is snow, a good slope, and a bit of motivation to escape the city. Below are destinations worth visiting right now, while there is still snow. We start in Slavonia and continue west and south.
Slavonia
Jankovac
Jankovac is the most well-known and most reliable winter excursion spot in Slavonia. Meadows around the mountain lodge turn into a natural sledding area used by families from across the region. The slopes are wide and safe, and due to the elevation, snow usually stays here longer than in lowland areas. Besides sledding, it is also possible to take a short winter walk through the forest or towards the waterfalls, which look completely different in winter than in summer.
Duboka
Duboka is a quieter Slavonian alternative for those who want snow without crowds. Gentle slopes are ideal for children and beginners, while the forest surroundings allow for a relaxed stay in nature. This is a destination that functions without infrastructure, yet offers ample space and tranquility.

Budinjak
Budinjak is the most practical winter location in the Žumberak area. Wide meadows and gentle slopes become a natural sledding area without organised facilities. It is ideal for a one-day trip, walking on snow, and spending time in nature far from city crowds.
Činovnička livada
Činovnička livada is a classic Zagreb sledding spot that comes into its own during snowy days like these. The slope is long enough for all generations, and nearby mountain lodges allow for breaks and warming up without extra planning.
Poljanice
Poljanice offers open space for sledding among the vineyards of Plešivica. Two slopes are suitable for both children and adults, and the nearby wine cottage makes the trip simple and practical. It is a good option for a short escape from Zagreb.
Japetić
The meadow below the Žitnica mountain lodge provides natural conditions for sledding and winter games. Long and open slopes allow time on the snow without crowds, with the option of an easy winter walk.

Vrata
The Vrata sledding area is neat and adapted for families. The conveyor lift, clear track, and pine forest ensure a pleasant winter day, while Fužine is a good addition for a walk after sledding.
Gorski kotar
Mrkopalj
Mrkopalj, next to the Čelimbaša ski lodge, is one of the most well-arranged sledding areas in Croatia. The conveyor lift allows for a longer stay without effort, and the snow remains stable here throughout winter.
Kupjak
The Gorski sjaj sledding area is known for its well-arranged infrastructure and conveyor lift. Everything is adapted for families, and snow often lasts longer here than in surrounding locations.
Rusovi dolci
Rusovi dolci offer quieter sledding in a forest setting. A conveyor lift operates on weekends, and the entire location is suitable for those who want snow without large crowds.
Petehovac
Petehovac is a good choice for those who want open slopes and time outdoors. Although there is no conveyor lift, there is plenty of space for sledding, with a mountain lodge available for breaks.
Tršće
