For the brave only! The wonderful canyon of Fratarica

The wonderful canyon of the wild river Fratarica is located about 12 km from Bovac, a 15-minute drive in the direction of Log pod Mangart. It is not a place for everyone, Fratarica requires a lot of courage and physical fitness since it is cut almost vertically into one of the demanding rocks of the Julian Alps – Loška stijena.

But that’s why it has waterfalls of exceptional beauty in breathtaking locations.

Fratarica Canyon offers a real canyoning experience because you can expect everything from it – from jumping into numerous pools and descending from high natural slides to exciting rope descents down powerful waterfalls. There are 12 cascades in total, with a descent of 1000 meters. Lower waterfalls are more easily accessible, the most impressive of which is the 45-meter-high Parabola waterfall.

The Katedrala waterfall, 20 meters high, below which there is a beautiful emerald green lake, is also exceptional. Both the Parabola and the Katedrala can be crossed using a rope and a guide, so make sure to leave the fear at home.

I don’t recommend climbing to the upper falls because it is a route for the very experienced, and there are few of them.

Fratarica ultimately flows into the valley of the Koritnica River, known as the valley of 100 waterfalls. Very picturesque, isn’t it?
