The lamb is always good on Klis!
During my recent visit to Split, due to preparations for the first Dalmatian festival of wine, delicacies, and entertainment Split Underground, I planned to go to a restaurant on Mertojak for lunch, but driving from the ferry port on the one-way Poljička street, I missed the necessary turn into Velebitska street.
Phew, I was angry with myself for that, but my companion Petar said “it doesn’t matter, we’ll go somewhere along the way so we don’t waste a lot of time”.
Driving like that, I saw a mighty fortress on Klis in the distance! And then an idea came to me. Let’s go for a lamb!
All lovers of this delicacy know well that good lamb is eaten on Klis, so this was a great opportunity to check if that is still the case.
Restaurant Hajduk is located not far from the intersection of the expressway that descends from Klis towards Split, on the so-called old Klis road towards the capital of Dalmatia. It’s one of those classic roadside restaurants with a reputation for good food.
A quick look at the roastery promises to enjoy this delicious delicacy.
An experienced waiter immediately approached us and took our order. “Give us 1.5 kilograms” I readily said the order for the three of us, but to my dismay, there were no baked potatoes, instead we ordered pommes frites and the inevitable spring onions as a side dish with the meat. And by the time we said lamb, it was on our table.
This was my third visit to this popular restaurant and I must say that the quality of the food is still at a high level and that it is worth stopping here and enjoying good lamb.
Lamb prices are a little less popular, you need to pay 50 euros per kilogram, scallions are 3.5 euros per portion, pommes frites are 2 euros each, and half a liter of beer is 3 euros.
Well, whoever likes it, go for it!
